Photo Tour: Hornbill Festival & North East India (HFRP15)
Time & Location
Photo tour description:
A 15 day tour journeying through the greener region of North East India, taking in the best of 3 states, Meghalaya, Assam and Nagaland. In Meghalaya our exploration meanders through lush green forests, with a trek to Rainbow Falls, so named as there is a rainbow faintly refracted near its base. Whilst here we will also explore the fascinating living root bridges, created from the roots of the rubber tree, which are intertwined across rivers by locals. We’ll further explore a local fishing community, where aerial photographs can be taken of canoes on clear green water, from a suspended walkway. In Assam we head out on safari atop elephants in Kaziranga National Park, home to the largest population of the one horned rhino. In between we explore the area for local rice harvesting and tea pruning scenes, which always makes for great photographs. We also jump on the local ferry to visit Majuli Island, cited as the largest freshwater island in the world, with its own unique landscape, traditional weaving and mask wearing monastic priests. We take a quiet morning walk through the local gibbon sanctuary, where your speed and eyesight are tested to photograph India’s only native apes. In Nagaland we immerse ourselves in the soulful drumming, harmonic chanting and extravagant costumes of the Naga tribes at the annual Hornbill Festival. This is a delightful gathering, full of humour and unique experiences, from tasting the local hooch, to photographing proud Naga men and women, resplendent in their traditional costume and chatting to the younger generation about their hopes and dreams for the future.
