Tour Summary

A 15 day tour starting in the ancient city of Hampi in Karnataka, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, until it was destroyed in 1565, by Deccan Sultanates. Moving south, through the  Nrityagram Dance Village, home to a troupe of dancers practising a classical form of dance known as Odissi, which is over 2000 years old. From here we move onto Mysore, with magnificent palace completed in 1912 in Indo-Saracenic architectural style, with influences from Hindu, Mughal, gothic and neo-classical architecture, giving a  window into the lavish lifestyle of the Maharajas up until the mid 20th Century. From the royal interiors we move onto the former hunting grounds of the Maharaja of Mysore for a safari in Bandipur National Park, which is made up of a primarily forested biosphere, with a small population of tigers and leopards, elephants, sambar and spotted deer, bison, macaques, langurs, antelope and over 200 different species of birds. From here we head up into the Nilgiri tea estates and visit the charity we will be supporting on this tour the Keystone Foundation. who support 135 tribal communities within the region. We then we head south west, to Kochi with its lively spice district, fishing port and iconic Chinese fishing nets, before ending with a Kettuvallam boat ride on the srene Keralan backwaters. These tours are a combination of a culturally immersive and a photo-centric tour, which will not only take you to key sites, but also for walks through local markets, historical districts and artisan communities to give you a sense of history and local life. For photography enthusiasts they cover a broad range of subjects within a compact time frame, including street photography, environmental portraiture, traditional architecture, wildlife and landscapes.

 

Photography intro (optional): 

For beginners who currently photograph using the auto-settings on their camera and are not digitally processing their images, an intro to photographing in semi-manual mode (aperture priority) and digitally processing photographs using Lightroom software is available. The format will be dependant on group size, face to face during the tour for  larger groups and online for bespoke or smaller groups.

For this tour we offer two levels of accommodation, a 1 - 3 Star Rate (budget to standard) and a 3 - 5 Star Rate (standard to premium). For each rate we aim to secure the best available accommodation within our budget and include local heritage hotels where ever possible.
